Audio from Voyager 2A not working.
Hi!
I have previously gotten the audio to stream from my target computer to my client, so I know it can be done. But that was a few months ago and for some reason I can't get it to work again. I have worked my way through the audio streaming FAQ several times with no joy. I think I need a sanity check to make sure I'm not missing something obvious.
[Target Computer Stats]
-HP EliteBook 845 G8 Notebook PC
-Sound output set to default to "MACROSILICON AMD High Definition Audio Device". Right clicking on this sound output to find the jack information says "HDMI Digital Jack" So I believe it is correct.
-Operating system: Windows 11 Enterprise
-Browser I am playing audio in: Chrome
-I also tried playing a saved MP4 file with no luck.
[Client Computer Stats]
- Windows 10 Pro
- Tiny pilot model: Voyager 2A
- Log URL: https://logs.tinypilotkvm.com/RM4xQ2zr
-Browser I previously got the audio working in: Opera (a chrome spinoff) - I also tested Chrome and firefox, neither worked for me.
Could you please look at the logs and make sure I'm not missing something? I went through all the steps in this FAQ: https://tinypilotkvm.com/faq/enable-audio, including unplugging and re-plugging in HDMI cords. I don't recall this being a challenge at all the first time I did it (with this very same target and client computer) so I'm puzzled as to why I can't get it now. Please help!

Hi @lmletham, I'm sorry you're experiencing this audio issue on your TinyPilot.
Thanks for sharing all those details! The logs you shared look ok and they don't suggest there are any issues preventing TinyPilot from playing audio, so this could be a setup problem.
I just noticed that my tinypilot is not on the latest and greatest update. I could go from 2.6.4 ->2.7.0. Is that a likely culprit?
We haven't updated how TinyPilot handles audio between
2.6.4
and2.7.0
so updating your TinyPilot's software likely won't make a difference - you're welcome to try though.Audio can be awkward because there are so many factors that can affect whether you can hear the sound on your client machine, so I have a few questions that might help us narrow down the problem.
Can I confirm that audio output from the HP laptop is working via its speakers?
Could you share a screenshot of your HP laptop's audio settings (Settings > System > Sound)?
On your client machine, do you see a speaker icon in the TinyPilot web interface's browser tab?
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Hi!
- Yes, I can confirm that audio output on the HP laptop works via speakers.
- Here is a screenshot of my sound settings on the HP laptop
- Yes, on the client machine I do see the Speaker Icon in the tinypilot browser tab.
Some other notes on my setup. I have the HP laptop connected to a dock. And I have several monitors connected to that dock. So when I went to look at the sound settings via START+R/mmsys.cpl This is what I got:
I see all three monitors, the laptop speakers, and the laptop AUX jack. I also see "Digital Output" which I must have missed earlier...but I cannot see how to get it to be 'plugged in'. I tried disabling/enabling it. No joy.

Hi again!
I got things working. I'm not exactly sure what fixed things, so I'll just lay out what I did.
I have several laptops connected to this TinyPilot via a HDMI KVM multiviwer (4 in/ 1 out). I thought maybe the multiviewer was dropping the audio signal. So I tried to connect tinypilot directly to my laptop. That weirdly didn't show any signal. So then I put things back in my original arrangment: Laptop -> Multiviewer -> Tinypilot. I think the act of unplugging and replugging the HDMI output from the Multiviwer into the Tinypilot (from both ends) fixed things. Though I didn't know until I tested the other laptops connected to the multiviewer. I tested two. Each worked. On each I selected "Macrosilicon" as the Default audio device. Then I switched the multiviewer to the appropriate input and got sound. Tried it on the laptop I was having trouble with initially and it worked too. I'm assuming that Multiviewer between my laptop and my tinypilot simply needed its HDMI cable fixed.
Thanks for your help w rubber duckying!

Thanks for the update @lmletham, I'm glad you've got audio working again!
It's definitely possible that having other devices in setup (KVM switch) or the laptop dock could impact the audio input here. Audio is fairly complex on TinyPilot because of how many factors are involved to get the audio playing correctly.
Feel free to reach out again if you have any questions.
